Jenny Scheinman:(the debut vocal album! available now as download and CD) Critically acclaimed violinist Jenny Scheinman makes a singular vocal debut on this eponymous album combining original, autobiographical alt-country contemporary folk compositions with stunning renditions of old-time country and blues selections by the likes of Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Tom Waits, Mississippi John Hurt, and several others. In many ways an intimate letter home, Jenny Scheinman reveals a uniquely haunting voice within the storied tradition of strong, plainspoken female country singers who bring reality and unadorned honesty to hard-won songs of love and life. Produced and recorded to eight-track analog tape by notable singer-songwriter/guitarist Tony Scherr in his Brooklyn home studio, the album represents one half of Scheinman's unprecedented, multi-faceted double portrait in American music, with her fifth instrumental release, Crossing The Field, being its companion piece.
Crossing The Field:(the instrumental extravaganza available as a downlaod; CD and vinyl will be released October 14.) Crossing The Field marks the much-anticipated fifth and most extravagant instrumental release by acclaimed songwriter, composer and arranger Jenny Scheinman. Internationally recognized for her distinct violin work alongside Grammy Award-winning artists such as Norah Jones, Lucinda Williams and Bill Frisell, Scheinman has been awarded the #1 Rising Star Violinist for five consecutive years (2003-2007) by Downbeat Magazine. Crossing The Field delves deep into contemporary American music with its lush and cinematic arrangements featuring Scheinman's deft violin mastery supported by guitarist Bill Frisell, pianist Jason Moran, and a full orchestra led by founding members of Brooklyn Rider, a string quartet well-known for their work with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project. The album represents one half of Scheinman's unprecedented double portrait in American music, along with her self-titled, simultaneously released debut vocal record.
